Archangels:
Archangel: From the Greek word Arch meaning Great and Angel meaning Messenger.
Archangels have no physical bodies or egos so they are completely unlimited beings.
Archangels are tangible conduits to connecting to the Creator.
They are angels of a higher rank, sent from God to protect and serve a specific purpose. Despite the prestige of an archangel, church leaders warn followers not to be too enthralled by their concept. St Paul writes that God is “above all principality, and power, and virtue, and dominion" (which may be taken symbolically or literally). The following is the social hierarchy of celestial beings including archangels:
First Hierarchy: Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones
Second Hierarchy: Dominations, Virtues, and Powers
Third Hierarchy: Principalities, Archangels, and Angels
Each Archangel serves a purpose and guards over a specific area/areas. The Three Archangels in the Bible are:
Archangel Gabriel- In the Old Testament’s Book of Daniel, Gabriel appears to Daniel to help him decipher visions of the future. In the New Testament’s Gospels in the Book of Luke, Gabriel announces the forthcoming births of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ. Gabriel’s mission is to be the supreme messenger of God; he is also the patron saint of communication.
Archangel Michael- Defender of purity, strength, and valor.
Archangel Raphael- Patron Saint of travelers, nurses, and healing
